The body camera footage captured during the event is being used as a teaching tool at the state's police academy, but an advocacy group says it demonstrates the need for more law enforcement reform. ... See MoreSee Less
As long as the mentally unstable continue to roam the streets without being forced treatment or meaningful jail time this will continue to happen. It’s sad but at this point it’s expected
I can't even begin to imagine what those police officers were going through. The person with the knife seems like he might be having a mental health issue. If that's the case, then officers should be trained on how to deal with that. Additionally, there are police departments that have managed to arrest suspects armed with guns, like the Wal-Mart shooter in El Paso, TX. Maybe the Seattle PD needs to find out who trained the El Paso PD on how to arrest an armed suspect without killing them.
Yes please give the Monday night quarterbacks a badge and gun and respond to these calls. Let’s see the outcome. This is not the Matrix, knives are deadly and you don’t shoot to wound, obviously no firearm experience. Stop defending violent criminals.
Dude comes at cops with knife, gets stopped, “clearly we need to train cops to be stabbed before they use force.”
Seattle gets what it votes for!! It all starts with the elected officials. So sad to what once was a safe city with laws is now a free for all with police officers hands tied behind their backs and no official to back them up.....
Looks like the Seattle police
Is following their Union protocols
Not their academic rules
Really? The Dude has a knife coming at the officer he had to defend his life! You don’t get fist fight with a knife and yes you shot to STOP the Threat but if he’s so happens to bleed out so be it!he it a threat until the knife is removed from his hands! I’m all for law enforcement reform but if it was me I’m doing the same
The man had it coming! Good job Seattle police!
People make choices and bad choices have consequences. If that choice is swinging a large knife at an officer and the consequence is you covered with a sheet don't blame the cop.
How about you don't pull a knife on a cop (or anyone, because I'd shoot you too) and we hold people accountable for their actions.
“They had a right to shoot but not the right to shoot to kill” 😂😂😂 That is quite possibly the most idiotic argument ever.
Really glad to see so many supporting the police with your comments. Maybe there is hope for this state after all.
Yeah it’s a teachable moment...Lesson #1. some guy comes at you with a lethal weapon then you respond with lethal force.
Turns out running AT (not away from) the POlice with a knife in your hands is bad for you. 🤷
Teachable moment? Ok don't be threatening people with knives? Oh also, come at an Officer with a knife, be it black, white, red, brown, male, female, mentally unstable, wearing a clown outfit, whatever, you have a 99.9999999% of being shot. Class dismissed........
They stop him before he stabs or kills someone in my neighborhood thank you officers
Asking for more Law Enforcement Reform. When are they gonna ask about Criminal Reform?
Glad that no officers got hurt during this incident. Better him than them
In 2013 an UK soldier was nearly decapitated when a man with a knife attack him.
How about you don't point it towards the officers and you won't get killed
Democrat policies aren't helping
Critics talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?
I say if someone runs shoot them. Why run?
KOMO keeps fanning the flames.
Come at me with a knife I'm blowing his head off to.
Two Seattle police officers are on routine paid administrative leave after a man who was allegedly lunging at and chasing passersby with a knife or knives was fatally shot in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood yesterday. ... See MoreSee Less
There was a video floating around last year of a deranged suicidal man attacking an officer with a knife. He was twice the distance as this guy and closed the distance too fast for the officer to react. The police did the right thing.
We all have choices. Bad choices like chasing people with a large knife has consequences, turning toward and armed police officer with that knife even a worse choice. KOMO stop fueling the flames
He sounded like he wanted suicide by cop. He said "U gonna have to kill me" n wouldn't get on the ground. Very sad
Job well done!
Great job Seattle PD.
The guy with the m4 was ready
Is the news that two officers are in paid leave after a shooting? Or is it maybe that a man was threatening citizens with a knife? One couldn't tell from the headline.
Must not have been room at Western state hospital.
I remember the days when cops didn’t kill people even when the suspect is wielding a Samurai sword
He crossed the river styx
Don't attack people with knives
Never bring a knife to a gunfight.
Welcome to inslees Seattle...
Oh look...machoman on the left is too good to wear a mask
They did their job damed if do damed if you dont!!!
Why don’t the cops have masks on.? Are they immune to the virus but we aren’t ?
Crazy when the suspect has a weapon video comes the next day but when one of us gets shot by them with no weapon it takes months 🤔
Another mutant bites the dust.
The bystander as well as the video that is floading around clearly shows, they shot this guy while he was running away.
Trigger Happy cops, just disgusting!!!
Over the past week, chef Maya Lovelace has shared dozens of sobering allegations about some of Portland’s most lauded restaurants, shaking the city’s buzzy dining scene to the core. From Eater PDX... See MoreSee Less
I worked in many kitchens over the years (not in PDX — in upstate NY). I’ve never worked in a more toxic environment. Each and every kitchen had its own set of horrors. From malfunctioning and dangerous equipment to egotistical and aggressive managers to physically and verbally abusive employees (I can’t remember how many times I was threatened with kitchen knives) — yet it was one of the most fun times in my life.
So it’s kind of hard to imagine the food service industry attracting people that don’t have toxic personalities and trends. Who else can stay up all night (usually drinking and, or doing drugs), wake up at the crack of dawn, work all day and night; and do that seven days a week?
I’m not excusing or justifying any of it. I’m just pointing out the type of schedule you must work in a restaurant and giving my insights into why I think the industry so often attracts a certain personality type.
Now the people that worked at Wendy don't have work, the owners are out money , so what did they accomplish. Nothing,
Charge the police departments for damage to the city. It was their actions that influenced these situations.
Because someone gets shot what gives them the right to destroy people’s property and destroy their livelihoods. You are just as guilty as the person who pulled the trigger. My opinion only
some things i heard.....he was intoxicated, police were called, struggled with police, grabbed officer's stun gun, pointed it at officer, then was shot.......and they riot.....lets report the facts media!!
These protesters may have valid reasons to hold the officers involved in this incident accountable, but to torch this business was not necessary.
And in burning the restaurant has displaced a bunch of workers who had nothing to do with his death, but no one thought of the workers.
Two Brooklyn lawyers, and a third upstate New York woman, accused of targeting the NYPD with Molotov cocktails during protests last month were indicted in federal court on Friday. They face life in prison if convicted on every charge.
Too bad it wasn't Wendy' s at fault for his death... Now those jobs won' t be available for area residents...and the owner may not be able to start over. A total loss to the neighborhood.
we all just have to get together and be a big family and quit burning until he's down and take care of people if they're getting hurt from people and bring them to justice
If our useless governor can't do his job and stop this stupidity Trump needs to bring military in
So it was Wendy’s fault he was shot?
Actually, the white woman set it on fire. Not the others. Just saw that above this post.
And i suppose it's the cop's fault again ... SMH
There is a giant difference in this circumstance and what happened to George Floyd.
They done taught that building a valuable lesson.
So the building was already on fire when the woman came up to the busted out window. But she appears to have squirted something more that caused the fire to increase. That's arson or accessory to it. Did the original fire start with a dumpster fire, someone moved the dumpster closer to the building? Most burger restaurants do not put the dumpster next to the building from my observation
Guy shouldn’t have grabbed the cops tazer plain and simple!! He deaserved what happend
Do people understand that no one is justifying the crime he committed? The choice to kill him is what this is about. He should have the right to at least stand in court and be found guilty and sentenced. Unless we are skipping that part now? Because then we should skip it for everyone.
Here’s the thing: once he stole that taser was then armed. If he were to use that taser on that cop he could steal that cops gun. Once a cop’s weapon is compromised, all force necessary is allowed. If the drunk guy had killed a bystander, himself or the cop with that cops gun, the cop is liable for it.
And don’t get it twisted, I 110% support this BLM movement and I think it’s far far overdue. I’m saying take race out of this and the situation the cop was put in warrants extreme action to protect himself and others. That’s his job.
All he had to do is what they asked him to do.
Once again another case of but for his actions police would not of been there.
It’s the age of stupidity.
We do not have the right to destroy property. We have the right to peaceably protest. When you destroy property you are a rioter, not a protester.
And that only proves ignorance. BLM is the problem.
Breaking windows and setting Wendy's on fire is not a protest.
Sorry, but how was the altercation the restaurants fault? Oh, that’s right, it wasn’t. People are out of hand.
What does Wendy’s had to do with it? It’s not the Restaurant’s fault if that guy got shot outside their place.
A perfect example of why not all black lives matter to this movement. I am all but 100 percent positive that this restaurant employed at least one black person, and yet it was destroyed. Now the person(s) is out of work, can't provide for their family, etc. So for this BLM movement to say black lives matter, they should say only if it was a heinous crime. Now they're just another group of hypocrites getting news coverage.
Interesting a taser is less than lethal by definition and he was killed for shooting one at the police. Seems like a clear case of excessive use of force. His lawyer made a great argument tonight you should take time to hear it. Basically the relationship between law enforcement and the black community ended when they stopped living in their neighborhoods, stopped knowing the families and stopped being a part of the community.
Let's tell the WHOLE story!!!! Our media is half of the world's problem!! SMH
Wow! That really helped. I'm sure that made a point. What a joke!
If he would not have fought with the officers, and not took the taser and fired it at the officer and obeyed the law guess what he would be a live today plan and simple ! Obey the law it’s not that hard !
And the Wendy’s restaurant that was trashed and burned deserved this kind of treatment? That’s just sad!
So the restaurant is to blame? I wonder if there are people in their community that are now out of work? Destroying our communities is not the way to get out the message for a change
Its not a protest when you DESTROY someone else’s livelihood, business or life....Its called RIOTING!
OMG, what did Wendy's do to cause this.
Oh ya cause Wendy's had a whole lot to do with it.... 🤦♀️
They are not protesters when they're damaging property Quit reporting them as protesters t
I saw one face book report that stated Brooks became involved in an altercation with police in which he was able to take one of the officers' taser device and began running away with it when the police shot him in the back 3 times. If that is true, its kinda hard to justify shooting someone in the back who is running away from you!
Omg why burn Wendy’s, they have nothing to do with this! 🤬🤬
That’s not a protester that’s a criminal
Well yes, of course! Take it out on the restaurant cause that will make it all ok
That's so stupid, people Wendy's had nothing to do with it😠
They gonna feel really stupid tomorrow when they want that 4 for 4
This happened in Atlanta and the headline should note that. First glance you assume it was in Seattle! Knock it off KIRO!
Those aren’t protesters those are rioters
Another group of “non-violent” protestors destroying a business that had nothing to do with the issue! These people need to be stopped and prosecuted and held accountable!
So what did Wendy’s have to do with the shooting.
How does burning down Wendy’s help?! Wendy’s is an innocent bystander! How many people are now out of a job now! How is this helping BLMs agenda?!
Suppose we all protest for every innocent officer that was killed while on duty?
Better training in hand to hand combat should be addressed...2 policemen vs a drunk...never should have gotten that out of control
The Mayor thought it was bad for the riots and now with police resigning we will see
Mayor will be begging for police protection after all officers resign...
Chief of Police resigns...the cost of being in charge of ego.
Man should not have grabbed taxed and threats to officer with it
Even the moronic mayor admitted the guy attacked police and tased one of them. She says he had the right to defend himself but shouldn’t have. Yeah, makes sense.
Now lets get him arrested and charged!
They'll just move and get hired at a different police station
Yes, let's set fire to Wendy's restaurant now those that work there have no job to go too. Rioters and Looters you just masked the real reason and now you made all the haters come out. Jerks. This world is going crazy...
At least the workers had insurance.
So police guns are just for decoration now? Got it.
Sorry. The guy turned a taser on the cops. He got shot. End of story
Wasn’t this the same police chief that was talking with protestors and was praised for doing so?
attack a cop, drive drunk, steal his weapon.. Justice served
Termination isn’t enough
The mayor should resign!
Instead you f being home with family and friends you people choice to keep on screwing up are wonderful world that just really sad
How do you know? Were you there? I prefer to get all the facts before I jump to a conclusion.
What on earth is going on...
That was her choice
I wonder why this issue of racial inequality wasn’t fixed when we had a black president in office for 8 years???
Travel guide Rick Steves is in Europe every year around this time, but the COVID-19 pandemic is keeping him home in Edmonds for the first time in 30 years. He doesn’t mind it though, because he’s learned how to cut onions. ... See MoreSee Less
why wasnt the city "all hands on deck" getting this fixed, replaced during the shutdown?
Because FU commuters! REAP WHAT YOU SEW SEATTLEITES! YOU VOTED FOR THESE PEOPLE... YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING YOU GET IN RETURN.
So the skagit bridge collapse affected 25% less daily drivers than the west seattle bridge and the state went all out to get that fixed. Right now the state leaders are busy bashing the president and are going to waste our precious time studying how gravity is going to bring this thing down.
Until the public elects some adults to office and they completely clean out the corruption in city hall we will continue to be plagued with the effects of theft and mismanagement
..."Repairing or replacing this bridge is engineering hubris (excessive pride or self-confidence.). An immersed tunnel similar to British Columbia’s under the Fraser River would be more earthquake resistant. The Washington State Department of Transportation’s web site has a 5-minute YouTube explanation of what makes a tunnel safer...."
Plant more money trees......Have Inslee order the bridge not to fall..........put up no bridge falling allowed signs. Have the Mayor say the bridge is doing great.
Looking at this photo, it seems like the supports under the roadbed should have been placed vertically. Did someone misread the drawings?
This has nothing to do with safety. It’s just one more little thing the govt is taking from you. It’s death by a thousand cuts. If it was for safety sake why is it just restaurants? What about the bar if I just wanna grab a beer? What about the bowling alley? The barber? A concert? What about 70,000 people at century link?
A tiny inconvenience when the DOL’s contact tracing clowns come knocking on your door demanding you quarantine for 14 days because you dined at the same restaurant as someone who was positive. That’s another 2 weeks of your income and life lost every time you get the knock.
So say you give them this information, then what? How invasive will it be if you are contacted because you MAY OR MAYNOT have been exposed, then what? Are "they" then wanna know who you have been in contact with AND that persons information..and so on and so forth. Its a slippery slope.
A friend said they are just gonna tell the contact tracers that they were recently in contact with Inslee so he has to quarantine 😂
How many of you use loyalty cards? Debit cards? Credit cards? Hint: all of these give the business and/or the government your personal information. They can predict where you will go. Fred Meyer knows when you'll buy broccoli again.
Think about that before you get up in arms about giving a phone # and email address.
Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one. Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.
I get the impression that some of these people have never had anything delivered or ordered takeout
What about a real scare and someone in that restaurant tested positive. It will be mandatory 14 day lockdown for all in contact with him/her. National guard he's bringing in will camp in your yard to enforce it or you go to jail.
We already do when making an online reservation, no biggie. Stay safe, folks!
Why do people hate freedom so much. A person should NEVER be forced to give up personal information.
Next you will all advocate tracking chips placed in the body. That way if you spike a fever you can be whisked away to quarantine, never to be seen again.
I think some of you need to read Orwell.
Your a fool if you think the government wants your information for health reasons. It's amazing how many sheep will do anything the politicians tell them to do.
Didnt we just have a story on here where those who snitched on people erroneously had their names publicized and were getting death threats? I think a bit of caution and skepticism is warranted here
And then this will become “normal” and the next generation won’t know better. Anyone remember the 90’s? 80’s? 70’s?
It's the spam that you will get later that is the inconvenience.
Just remember, if you're in a bar and a server asks for an ID, you are legally required to present it.
There will be a second wave. Science people.
Eat a fat one. Wallmart slammed, Target shoulder to shoulder. Outdoor gun range deep in the Cascade Mountains closed. I declare WAR on you.
I think it would be fun to have Jay Inslee masks
No, it’s actually more than I’m going to do.
I thought a mask was the least we could do.
We need sanctuary restaurants for undocumented diners.
Only thing they need is your order. If they want more, taking my business elsewhere.
Yes. You give them your credit card which is more scary.
That's true, it is a tiny inconvience. However, that little inconvience is not the problem. The problem is with what comes next. That information can/will be used for everything from more targeted marketing to the nefarious identity theft or scamming potential that it has. It will be exploited for all it is worth instead of used as a tool for a very specific task. 100% of everything is exploited in the world we've built ourselves and allow to exist. This will be no different.
