Heather Renee Shappell style was once very accurately described as “Pop-Art for Pug Lovers.” Her favorite things to create are punny pop art from the 80’s and 90’s (sometimes with a little bit of a dark twist), cute and sometimes creepy animals, and a whole lot of pugs (her 13-year-old pug “Elvis” being her most prolific muse). She's a member of Happy Time Apocalypse. Check her art out every second Friday 🐶 ... See MoreSee Less

We are so excited to introduce our latest produce highlight of the week, the Belgian endive! This coveted member of the chicory family is brand new to our markets, and we are thrilled to have it. Known in Belgium by the nickname "white gold," Belgian endives are a Western European export, the majority of which come from, perhaps unsurprisingly, Belgium. They are beloved for their tender, 'creamy' leaves and mild flavor. Belgian endives can be tricky to grow, which is why they are so rare at market, but our own Kirsop Farm was able to successfully cultivate them! Give them a try roasted or in a salad with goat cheese and figs. #NeighborhoodFarmersMarkets #BengianEndives #WhiteGold #NewKidInTown #WelcomeToMarket #FavoriteVeggie #Chickory #GrownInWashington #SupportYourLocalFarmer #LocalProduce ... On Saturday 2/1/2020, from 11:30a - 2:30pm I am teaching my Paint the Funk Out! art workshop. When we Paint the Funk Out we use active and expressive acrylic painting techniques to create art with intentional, personal meaning. The process metabolizes our emotions and allows us to use creativity for health.I guide you through the painting process using demos, straightforward painting techniques, and self-care exercises for beginning and seasoned artists, giving you a unique learning experience. No painting experience is necessary. This 3-hour workshop is for adults 18 yrs +, and includes all materials. The fee is $60. The workshop is held in Moonrise Studios inside the Greenwood Art Collective. To purchase tickets, please visit my website at www.gallerysati.com and click ‘shop’. My workshop history is also listed on gallerysati.com. Here are more details on Paint the Funk Out!: Through process painting, we stay in the presence of how we FEEL each moment we are painting. We stay with the funk, the joy, everything in between, for as long as possible and move them with the brush. This gives us a double whammy of emotional metabolism and a whole lotta fun. Think Teal Swan meets Jackson Pollack. We start with a guided meditation, a stretch, brief demos, then go crazy on our paintings.Sometimes, it's time to be still, and sometimes it is time to Paint the Funk Out! This active process painting workshop metabolizes emotions through art. Process painting is painting without goals, being completely in the moment with yourself and your materials. Being present with our emotions while process painting allows us to process them in the way that is natural, by having brain function stay anchored in the amygdala. Brain function stays in the amygdala when you are creating art without direction, which is the heart of process painting. When we have goals for our artwork or start to label or judge our work or the process while we are painting, we use the cerebral cortex for art creation instead of the amygdala, which does not give us the full physiological health benefit possible through process painting. When we approach art with emphasis of how we feel in each moment, and integrate that into our creations, we increase our oxygen absorption, lower stress hormones and increase alpha brain waves. Gentleness meets rawness in this workshop for a beautiful way to move the heart and brush together. ... See MoreSee Less
