Seattle, WA -- Mar 21, 2020

I'm feeling hopeful today. Not just because the sun is out and the cherry trees are in bloom and I have a beautiful bottle of wine that is going to be my dinner date. But because I've had experiences all day with friends and colleagues who are taking concrete actions to make the world a better place in light of what's going on... * I had takeout breakfast from Wayward Cafe in the Roosevelt District, who are staying open and doing whatever it takes to keep their staff employed, like so many restaurants and bars and other small businesses in town. * I talked to a researcher friend at a local laboratory who is keeping herself in voluntary total self isolation during this entire crisis to best protect her vulnerable patients. * I stopped by our Fremont neighbors Mischief Distillery who are using their distilling equipment to produce much-needed hand sanitizer (and still selling bottles of whiskey to go). * A heard from friend of mine who wrote to me about an exchange he wants to set up for people to donate their upcoming Federal stimulus checks to people in greater need. These people all rock, and it inspires me that despite how painful the last few weeks have been and how much the next several months are going to be deeply challenging for us all, the countless small, selfless things that people are doing will make other people's lives better and help light triumph over darkness. Way to go, people.- Christopher ... See MoreSee Less

To help flatten the curve of COVID-19 we have temporarily closed all of our locations. This has left our 500 employees in an unpredictable place. We are reaching out to our community for help. Please donate to our Heavy Restaurant Group relief fund. Any donation is greatly appreciated and 100% of the money raised will be equally distributed to our team. 🙌🍕🍷 bit.ly/2J7Oj7e ... Starting at 8pm sharp, we’re asking Seattleites to belt out their loudest grito and join a movement that began in European countries, opening our windows, standing on our balconies, from our front yards, backyards and or anywhere you can to make a joyful noise letting the healthcare and front line workers know how much we appreciate them. Clap your hands, raise your voices, bang some pots and pans to show solidarity and let the front line know how much they are appreciated. The message is simple - #MakeAJoyfulNoise! ... It turns out that #sizematters under the weight of this pandemic’s economic fallout, & we need help NOW..The Keeping Workers Paid + Employed Act (a section of the COVID-19 stimulus bill) was originally intended to support us..After partisan disputes, last-minute changes opened up vital federal funding to larger franchisees -- the big guys that are now qualified will take over 50% of this allocated support. Masquerading these big guys as small businesses will literally kill us as local+independent businesses. .This bill is headed to the House -- NOW is the time to organize and more clearly define our needs. Speaking with one voice will show our leaders that #sizematters..To get involved, DM @seattlerestaurantsunited or go straight to seattlerestaurantsunited.com for the toolkit you'll need to help. Our city’s soul and spirit depend on it. #sizematters #savesmallbusinesses ... See MoreSee Less
